Our Vision

CortAlp, an acronym for Alpine Short Films, is the International Mountain Short Film Festival, for young video-designers from Italian and international universities from all over the world.

Born in 2021 at the Politecnico di Milano School of Design from an idea by Aldo Faleri, a professor of Alpine Design, in collaboration with the CAI (Italian Alpine Club), on December 11th on the occasion of International Mountain Day, now in its third edition.

All students of Politecnico di Milano and partner universities are invited to the festival.

The Highest Festival in the World

Cortalp aims to climb to where the ice is perennial and become the highest festival in the world, to better observe the ongoing climate changes and to be a spokesperson with the collaboration of young video-makers. Its geographical position at an altitude of 3450 meters earns it the title of the highest festival in the world. The nature of its program and its intentions, along with the Trento Film Festival, establish it as the most important event entirely dedicated to mountain cinema in Italy, focusing on short-form video-design films made entirely by young designers under 30.

The Oscar of Mountain Oscars

The heart of the event is the "Manlio Armellini" Award Competition, which selects and awards the best original Mountain Short Films produced by students from the most important international universities, led by the School of Design of the Politecnico di Milano. Named in memory of Manlio Armellini, patron of the Salone del Mobile in Milan and a great mountain enthusiast, it aims to stimulate creativity and awareness on alpine issues.

IAMF Member

Starting next year, CortAlp Festival can join the prestigious IAMF (International Alliance for Mountain Film), which brings together 20 mountain film festivals in the world and one museum (the National Mountain Museum of Turin), representing 16 countries in Europe, Asia, and South America. Since its inception, the Cine Mountain Festival has presented more than 700 films representing the best of national and international genre cinematography of all time.
